Bony King of Nowhere

The Bony King of Nowhere, AB Club, Feb. 6, 2007

Belgian people are known for being quiet and unassuming. And this, must be the reason that the Bony King of Nowhere isn’t an international megastar. Yet.

And I say ‘yet’ because within a short period of time I’m convinced he will be. The Bony King of Nowhere is the project of 22-year-old Belgian composer Bram Vanparys. His distinctive voice is impossible to stop listening to. With its soft melodic tones and percussion undercurrents, it truly is beautiful music.

But the good news, is that since Bram and his band are still regarded as quirky, it’s possible to see them in concert without paying a fortune.

And the Warande Park in Brussels is the perfect place to listen to this music. A warm summer evening with the trees gently blowing in the wind as great tunes travel across the park: perfect.

Bram has been inspired by Radiohead – the name ‘The Bony King of Nowhere’ is also the title of a Radiohead song. But he’s been inspired enough to make a sensation debut album ‘Alas My Love’ which has had the critics purring. ‘It’s not good’ they say, ‘it’s great’.

With a free gig by a great band, in a beautiful park, why miss out? Get to Brussels for the 24th of August 2009.
