If you happen to not like muscles, fries or chocolate (obviously not together?!) or have gorged yourself to excess on these local specialties on your first night then we have found the perfect place for you to re-excite those taste buds – providing your like mushrooms of course.
One of Brussels’ most original food ventures of recent years is Le Café des Spores which as its name suggest is a mushroom restaurant. A pretty, intimate little restaurant that also has a ‘cave’ where you can dine amongst its impressive wine selection which all helps to create the seductive atmosphere adds to the flavour of the food.
The wine list is pretty impressive, so ask the trendy staff to help you complement your chanterelles, death trumpet, porcini and amongst others in stunning dishes cooked in front of you.
Becky Barincoat at the Guardian also visited Café des Spores while on her trip to Brussels earlier this year and said;
‘…our best meal of the weekend was at the Café des Spores in St Gilles. Here, the humble fungus is king and every dish contains a weird, delicious mushroom or three. We had gratin with black trompettes, moules with mushrooms and mushroom ice-cream (nicer than it sounds). It was eccentric but great – a bit like Brussels, really.’
For some of the finest mushrooms in Brussels there is only one place.
