The Festival des Ideo has so many selling points its hard to choose one. So I didn’t. Here are several: it takes place in a beautiful suburb of Paris; it features great music; it lasts a long time so people don’t get shattered by going to ten hours of music a day; and its timing: taking place at the end of August means only one thing – its going to be cheap.
This is the time all Parisians go away leaving cheaper hotel rooms and more room for a bargain.
And yet people don’t have to be shoehorned into a particular time-frame: many music festivals take place over three days and if the dates don’t suit you, tough. Not the Festival des Idéo.
Lasting from the 19th of August until the 6th of September, these dates are wide enough to allow anyone to come: what’s more, the standard of music is consistently high – it isn’t like if you come right at the end you get the dregs of the festival. Instead, for two and a half weeks Paris produces great music.
Plus, this really is a family-friendly trip: for people who want it there are club nights and heavy metal concerts; but for children there are drama workshops and many activities kids enjoy – there are shows created specifically for them.
But there are still all the things which make a good festival for late teens and twenty-somethings: alcohol to be had and wonderful music.
Whether you want to go with family or friends, the Festival des Ideo is a really worthwhile trip.
