The diminutive in ‘Pianissimo jazz festival‘ is wrong. Because the festival is anything but small – despite only being in its fourth year, the festival has a schedule which is the envy of many: a full month of top-class jazz cannot be enjoyed in many cities.
In Paris, the excellent American Jazz festival (running throughout July) is followed by the (arguably) even better Pianissimo Jazz festival. It proves that being young doesn’t stop something being successful.
And the Sunset Jazz club is a great venue to host the festival at. Opened in 1983 by Jean-Marc Portet and his wife Michele, the club has become a favourite of musicians and audiences alike.
Musicians love it because they think that the American basement bar is perfect - they find the space ideal, with its arched cellars and its acoustics, to play for an intimate audience. And the audiences love it because they feel privileged to be there and it brings out the best in the musicians.
The highlight of the festival is probably the four shows by the Yaron Herman trio in the middle of August. But the beauty of this festival – perhaps more than any other – is the unknown gems which can be discovered. Little-known musicians producing the performance of their life can be expected.
All of this, underscores why a trip to Paris – if only for a few days – is a great idea: a beautiful city by day; a musical city by night.

Wow what I would give to be able to perform with this impeccable jazz festival.I am a musician having played four of the woodwind instruments such as clarinet,bass clarinet,tenor Saxaphone, alto-saxaphone.Also would add soprano since in the same family with Tenor sax.What are the chances I win the Paris,London contest surely would need a massive makeover from TLC Clinton and Stacy What NOT To Wear show probably will get laughed at.I am quite sure this International Jazz Festival is a real treat and I think at this very moment really saddened given the beautiful gracious people culture exotic cars and just fun activities.I wonder do you all have a Disney park or extreme amusement park attraction.Trully if there is such a place near Paris,London definitely will be a trip I will cherish for a long time.Lastly, I love all types of music and my appreciation for the arts is grandieur like Michelangelo and DaVinci great art works exquisite and honestly would need someone to hold me up from the amazing hospitality and romance in the air.Peace!
