Verbindingen/Jonctions Festival

Multi-channel performance@ Mapping festival 2005

You might think that a festival called Verbindingen/Jonctions would be something of a confused mess – the organisers couldn’t choose to do one thing or the other and in the end they ended up doing both to a dreadful standard.

The reality, is that Jonctions is a bi-annual multi-disciplinary festival, which will this year celebrate its 12th instalment. And because of the focus of the festival this year, the organisers decided to call it Verbindingen, or ‘Links’ in English.

This year, the festival will have three distinct strands: firstly,  Shades of Grey Literature, which will look at what organises electronic communication; secondly, The life and nature of data (an exploration of the question: What is data? To who or what is it handed over or where does it come from.); and thirdly, it will look at Performative Instructions which help put other things in motion.

Whilst there is undoubtedly a technological element to the festival, it is put on by the Constant Association for Art and Media and it is clearly incredibly relevant to the making of art. Indeed, the theme of this year’s festival is almost about the philosophy of making art.

This would undoubtedly aid anybody’s understanding of why the like the types of art they do and as such, would be incredibly useful in the long-term. Which means that a trip to Brussels to attend the festival, taking place from the 19th until the 29th of November  2009 at La Bellone is well worthwhile.

    hello Sarah,

I am Nicolas Maleve, one of the organisors of the festival. Thanks a lot for this article. Just a quick note: most of the festival will take place in Zennestraat, 17, 1000 Brussels. La Bellone will host one spectacle of the festival.

    Thanks again
