What can I say – I love trains and would always opt for as a credible alternative to any airborne alternative – I’m very happy for the winners of this competition; I’m sure they all had a fantastic time.

I’m also happy for those who live within a reasonable commuting distance of St. Pancras (lovingly restored at great public expense – in part using my taxes) who can thus take advanatage of the burgeoning High Speed Rail revolution.

Unfortunately for the rest of us (particularly those living in the peripheries of Britain) the attractions of a £59.00 special offer fare and adverts extolling the virtue of impromptu trips to Brussels, Lille, Paris or even further afield, “just because it’s Saturday” ring somewhat hollow.

I look forward (about ten to fifteen years if HS2 comes to fruition?) to the day when I too can board a High Speed Rail direct service from Manchester (the city of my birth and where I still live and work) to Paris, Lille et al. Perhaps then, for me and millions others like me, it might be a case of Paris or wherever, just because it’s Saturday.

Apologies for any perception of bitterness on my part but I know how St.Pancras and HS1 was funded – it just seems like another facet of Londoncentric Britain to me.

The Eurostar has made commuting to Paris or Brussels a very pleasant journey. Commuting to these destinations was very cumbersome prior to the birth of the Eurostar.

I came to London 9 years ago and I have take the Eurostar forever since. I love it. It’s just changed my life and gave me new horizons and opportunities.
