Peter Klasenv is a German artist who produces artwork through a number of means. He is a painter, photographer and sculptor, which means there is enormous breadth to his work.
What’s more, with an exhibition of his work on showing his work from 1959-2009, the exhibition can show the way his work has developed. This is particularly interesting in the case of Klasen, because he is a prominent member of the Narrative Figuration movement where artwork is all about showing the development of society.
Thus, in amongst the 200 works of art by Klasen on show at the Tri Postal gallery in Lille, are installations which show how society developed, for example, in the 1980s. Coupled with the long time-span in which Klasen has worked, this exhibition allows any art-lover a terrific cross-section of both the art of the last fifty years, and also an artistic impression of the last fifty years, because of Klasen’s focus on the development of society.
This exhibition is also special because it brings into the public sphere works by Klasen which have never been seen before – they were sold off to private collections when they were first finished and have never been presented to the public.
As such, this exhibition at the Tri Postal, running until the end of November 2009, is really worth going to, because the variety of work which Klasen has produced means there is something which will tickle your fancy, whatever your tastes.
