Poitiers is best known for its rich history, stunning architecture and the many dramatic buildings to be seen- but for something a little more modern the nearby theme park Futuroscope offers something markedly different.
Futuroscope continues to build on the area’s theme of grand architecture with many of the theme park’s imposing buildings. Most are made of metal and glass: giving them a sense of flow and making them as fascinating as their contents.
Many of Futuroscope’s attractions center around audio-visual techniques with many custom built 3D and 4D cinema screens. The newest attraction ‘Arthur, The 4D Adventure’ provides a mix of 3D cinema with simulator ride utilising many of the riders senses. Other more hands on attractions include ‘Mission Eclabousse’ where the aim is to squirt other boats targets without being shot yourself.
For those who prefer to mix culture with technology the ‘Brush with Genius’ displays Van Gogh’s work on the huge IMAX cinema screens offering a new way to look at his famous work and the inspiration helping its creation.
In addition to the attractions the park offers some of the some remarkable restaurants in the area including ‘Le Cristal’, a restautaunt specialising in cuisine ‘of the future’. Molecular gastronomy focuses on the texture, colours and temperature of the foods to create a stimulating and fun menu, which is more then a little out of the ordinary.
The theme park is often a welcome change of pace to the center of Poitiers and offers something a little different.
