Discover the rich history of Bordeaux

There are many historic cities in France, but few can boast history tracing back as far as Bordeaux can. Well known worldwide for it’s superb wine-making, a trip to the city wouldn’t be complete without sampling a wine tour and quaffing on some of the worlds best.

After a few glasses of magnificent claret, it’s often nice to do something relaxing and enjoying one of the great museums the city has to offer is the perfect treat. One of our favourite museums is Musee d’ Histoire Naturelle, The Natural History Museum. Being one of the oldest museum in France, it unsurprisingly offers some of the most extensive and diverse display; from the local area, to exotic species across the globe.

This fantastic collection was first created at the end of the French Revolution and has expanded to now include mammals, birds, reptiles and fish, as well as coelenterates, molluscs, crustaceans and insects (particularly butterflies!) Museums like this are always full of life and character, even if some of the taxidemy can be a little creepy.

Musee d’ Historie Naturelle lies within a beautifully renovated house, where all has been done to keep the displays exciting, and in the best possible conditions. It is truly a wonderful way to spend the afternoon; with so many exhibitions and intriguing items, it’s a fantastic and educational experience for young and old alike. To top it off, entry on the first Sunday of each month is free.
